PacificWalking.jpg

Welcome to San Diego, Comic-Con goers. We’re stoked you’re visiting our hometown. North Park was one of the first suburbs of San Diego. Today it’s one of its most vibrant, active, and cosmopolitan neighborhoods. We have great restaurants, killer bars, and epic craft breweries among other fun things to do. So, get out of the crowds of the Gaslamp and head up the hill to check out these top 10 recommendations from your friends, and North Park locals, Chandra Press.

Pizzeria Luigi’s
1137 25th St.
http://pizzerialuigi.com/gallery.html
By far the best pizza in or around North Park. Don’t be fooled by their “North Park” location, the on 25th is the original. Luigi’s serves up killer pies and slices with several handles of great local beer to wash it all down. Our favorites are the Capone and Spicy Kevo. Dine inside at the bar or tables, or go al fresco on the big side and back patios. A perfect place for an affordable meal with friends.

Taco Stand

A stone’s throw from our office, Taco Stand serves up amazing Mexican food at a reasonable price. No table service here, muchacho. Go up to the counter and get yourself a carne asada burrito or some carnitas tacos. It doesn’t matter what you order, you’re in for a treat. Don’t forget the churros; the best in all of San Diego. Sit inside or out. The line can get long, but it’s worth it.

Alexander’s North Park
3391 30th Street 92104
http://alexanderson30th.com

Consistently voted one of the best Italian restaurants in San Diego, Alexander’s serves up delicious pizza, pasta, and other wonderful eats. The brie and garlic with their signature garlic bread is too die for. We smell that darn bread every evening from our office. The 30th Street salad and gorgonzola and walnut pasta are a couple of our faves. A romantic ambiance, indoor and outdoor seating, and a solid wine list make Alexander’s a great place to grab a bite.

Pete’s Seafood and Sandwich

In the mood for some excellent fish and chips or a shrimp po’boy? Well, look no further than Pete’s. Right across the street from Alexander’s, Pete’s is a casual, order and sit restaurant serving up awesome fish and killer sandos. Dine inside or out on the small patio. With a few handles of local brew on tap, they’ve got you covered. Our favorites are the wings (go figure, it’s a fish place) and the po’boy. Easy on the wallet and relaxed, Pete’s is a great place to cool your jets after a long day stalking Patrick Stewart.

North Park Flavordomerev2.jpg

Modern Times Flavordome
3000 Upas 92104

The name of this gem says it all. Modern Times is a San Diego institution serving up all the favorites like Orderville and Fortunate Islands. When they opened this joint, work at Chandra took a dramatic plunge for a while. A kickback atmosphere and killer drafts make this a crowd pleaser. You can get beer flights (small tasters of different kinds/styles) for those who struggle with commitment. They also sell beer in cans to go. Trust us: go here.

Dunedin

Ahhh Dunedin… so tasty. Dunedin is a New Zealand eatery with a great patio and even better bar area. Known for their killer burgers, they have a menu that is sure to have something for everyone. Stumbling… er… walking distance from Modern Times, Dunedin has a fun, relaxed atmosphere and sports a solid draft list. Also great for lunch or brunch.

San Diego is known for its craft beers, and North Park is the epicenter of it all. With a casual, family friendly atmosphere and more killer brews than you can shake a stick at, Thorn Street is one of our favorite spots to chill out. Try the Relay IPA, a classic. Make sure to fill a growler to take home with you.

Lefty’s Chicago Pizzeria
3448 30th Street 92104
http://leftyspizza.com/north-park

Authentic deep dish pizza and Chicago style dogs in way better weather. We love our deep dish and Lefty’s always satisfies. A North Park institution, Lefty’s has been serving up killer pies since we moved into the area over 14 years ago. Minimal seating inside with the Bears of Cubs on an old TV, a few tables outside under the awning, a couple of beers on draft (PBR!) and good times to be had. Don’t miss it.

Share this with your friends and let us know what you think if you make to any of our recommendations! Have a great Comic-Con.

Cheers!
